Spotlight on creative social work trainingGetting and holding attention in training sessions is a challenge, even for good trainers. EveryChild Ukraine in co-operation with partner organization - Institute for Human Services (USA) launched a Programme of training of trainers in social work for families with children in terms of the project "Preventing Separation of Children through Implementation of Gate-keeping Mechanism". Training Curricula and training modules for trainers in social work for families with children are developed as for local trainers, as for trainers and specialists from other organizations and regions in Ukraine.
«Frequently, when one discusses the profession of trainers, he or she expresses different, sometimes opposite views. Some believe that to cope with people one have to be a competent psychologist or educator who can find the approach to the audience and present the material in the light of individual needs of each participant. Others believe that the main thing that matters - is not the education but practical experience», - explains Maria Rostalna, training manager of Everychild Ukraine.
Therefore, the Training of Trainers on Core Competencies in Social Work was designed for professionals working in roles as educators, community workers, youth, social workers, specialists, project managers and took place over three days in Apri.
30 participants of the training were selected through open competition. Thus a group of experienced and committed trainers who will deliver trainings for social workers in coming years was formed.
The Training became an essential resource for Ukrainian training professionals and was packed with new and valuable features for delivering cost-effective, high-impact training. Experienced trainer from Institute of Human Services Ruby M. Johnston covered all the important basics: presentation preparation, learner motivation, visual aids, group involvement, creative materials, resource materials, presentation techniques and customized training, participant-centered techniques for technical training.
"I think the training was beneficial for specialists working within the community who were interested in developing their practice in participatory workshop delivery. By the end of the training we have developed skills in effective questioning and active listening, using solution focused methods that can be applied to a variety of situations, working with people in a group context and one to one", - said participant from Sumy Natalia Sahnyuk.
By making learning enjoyable organizers encouraged participants to keep learning long after the training.
