Mission possible?
Along with political issues, which constitute the main focus of attention to Ukrainian theme in British media, social issues become more and more highlighted as well.
Nowadays institutionalized children, baby homes, HIV-positive orphans, problems of vulnerable families, ways to prevent child abandonment – these are not the whole list of issues British “Sky News” journalists Viktoria Gatenby and Toby Nash decided to raise in their programme about Ukraine. Correspondents were invited by “Everychild” from 12 – 15 of February.
British journalists got acquainted with positive moves in protection of children’s rights, which were achieved through continuing process of deinstitutionalization, promotion of alternative types of care, establishment of integrated social services to support families in crises.During the visit they attended children’s home in Bila Tserkva city (Kyiv region), district center of social services for families, children and youth in Tarashcha (Kyiv region) and Mother and Baby unit in Chernigov city.
Correspondents were impressed by meeting many warm, caring people with a burning drive to help and who believe passionately in the children they work with. Their burning desire to reach their goals make miracles happen everyday in the sphere of children’s rights protection.
