Ñhildren assisted in the development of vision of reform in their institution
On the 21st of July in Pereyaslav-Khmel’nitsky a round table on children’s home reformation was held.
In terms of event the concept of reformation in the best interests of children, children’s rights on family environment were discussed. Deputy Head of district state administration V. Gubar , heads of district state administration departments, head of village Cybli, where the institution is situated, Head of Children’s Service S. Andriyash were present at the meeting. N. Tatarchuk – Deputy Head of “Hope and Homes” partner organization, took participation in the discussion as an expert on deinstitutionalization.
Participants analyzed the current situation of children and families, available social services in Pereyaslav-Khmel’nitsky district, got acquainted with national and international experience in reformation of internats, as well as identifies possibilities to introduce changes in the best interests of children. Also among the discussed issues there were aim, objectives and optimal structure of the institution, the place of the center in existing system of children’s rights protection institutions, inter-institutional co-operation, personnel of the institution, their duties and functional responsibilities.
The key feature of the event was the participation of children from residential institution in discussion. They drew and presented the “room of my dream” to the participants. Children’s vision was very convincing and impressive. For instance, they wanted to live in apartments for one or two-persons. Also they wanted the entrance doors to be locked and walls of the room to be decorated with colorful details: curtains, covering, and individual design.
Next steps pf cooperation will include involvement of new personnel to the institution and intensive training.
