EveryChild helps publish a report on child rights in Ukraine
EveryChild Ukraine has worked alongside a coalition of Ukrainian NGOs to publish a report on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in Ukraine.
In 2008 the Ukraine Government published a national report on how well child rights have been implemented in Ukraine from 2002 to 2006. The NGO report draws attention to issues relating to child rights that they believe are lacking in the official State Report.
The NGO report highlights a number of areas in which the Ukraine Government is failing to address specific rights, or support specific groups of children. For example, the Ukraine Government is not doing enough to prevent discrimination against marginalised groups of children.
The report also draws attention to the fact that children in Ukraine continue to suffer high levels of violence and that abuse occurs in schools, families, through contact with the police as well as in children's homes. One of the problems in Ukraine is that there is no efficient system to detect, report and address cases of violence.
