Renewed right to play
On the 23rd of August 2012 Partnership for Every Child opened a new playground in district “Levada” in Poltava city.
Deputy head of Partnership for Every Child Zinaida Kyyanytsia, head of civic union “Our house – Poltava” Olexander Mychaylovych Zaluzhnyy, first deputy head of educational council of Poltava city council Iryna Adamivna Nadina and head of educational and out of school activities and social protection Iryna Mykolaivna Gryn took part in the opening ceremony.
«Contemporary society creates new play rules for children – in direct meaning of this phrase, - manager of “Growing up together” project Larysa Stryga says. Right to play is one of the core rights of the child written in the Un Convention on the Rights of the Child. In my childhood children were allowed to spend whole day on the street and climb up on the trees. Between the plays one could come home, take a snack, and run to the street again – till the evening. Today children’s lives are more organized: first, kindergarten, and then school. Al this time children are under severe control of adults, it’s hard to see them on the streets of in parks.
A new playground, we hope, - will correspond to contemporary children’s needs. As children’s playground – is a model of society and from the point of view of evolution, ideal playground should look like the environment where the child will grow up. Today’s society changes do quickly, changes cannot be foreseen, and we can do one thing – let the child play as he or she wants, overcoming his or her frights”.
Around 100 little inhabitants of the district “Levada”, mothers with children of early age, pre-school age and school age children, and children from Poltava city centre of out of school education came to the opening ceremony.
In the future playground should become a centre for leisure of children and parents. The playground was made up by company “Goyda” and is situated in Poltava, 20, Golovka street, close to Poltava city centre of out of school education and library ¹3.
